EKYC 6 Calderwood Blue Star 3

The first LYFDA game of the season was played at Ballerup Playing Fields, Pitch number 6, today, Sunday 28 August. The weather conditions were terrible with a strong wind blowing from one end of the pitch to the other.

The conditions spoiled a good game but we tried to play football. The only goal of the first period was scored by captain for the day JACK KERR after good work on the left wing by Ryan Kelly.

At the beginning of the second period five changes were made, and we were playing into the strong wind. The conditions got the better of us and at the end of the 20 minute period we the score had been turned over to be 3-1 to Blue Star.

At the start of the final period, the team resorted to the 11 players who started the match and the decission was taken to play 2 ten minute halves because of the wind. RYAN KELLY pulled a goal back to make it 3-2 going into the last 10 minutes, into the wind. The boys dug deep and played some tremendous passing football keeping Blue Star penned in their own half. Man of the match LIAM CRICHTON then added a hat trick of goals from inside the penalty are to give us a 5-3 lead. We pressed forward to the final whistle and in the last minute GARY McCULLOCH added a sixth goal to complete the scoring.

The boys did well to come back from being 3-1 down, and played some impressive football in the final third period in difficult weather conditions, earning praise for their performance from the Blue Star coaching staff.

Next week we travel to Mill Utd and the boys will need to keep up the standards they set in this game to achieve a result.

EKYC 7 Calderwood Blue Star 3

We kicked off our first friendly of the season against the impressive Calderwood Blue Star at Ballerup on Sunday morning. It was a warm sunny day and from the start our boys were up for the challenge. All 18 boys were involved and had at least 30 minutes each.
The match was played over 3 seperate 20 minute periods.
Almost immediately our boys took the upper hand and soared into a 3-0 lead with 2 goals from Scott Mitchell and a penalty from Darren Smith.
At the start of the second third the changes unsettled the team a little and Blue Star pulled it back to 3-2, before Man of the Match Scott Graham scored after great work from a corner restoring the 2 goal advantage.
In the final third, the formation was changed to a 3-4-3, more attacking style, and Blue Star were penned in their half for most of the 20 minutes. Another penalty from Darren Smith and a great individual goal from Scott Mitchell, gave him his hat trick and a 6-3 lead. The team made another 7 changes with Thomas McGuire moving up front. The game was finished with Thomas taking the ball 20 yards out and crashing a shot into the net which the diving keeper could not keep out.
Overall it was a fantastic display from the boys and if they continue to play like this and improve then it should be succesful season.

Season 2005/2006

The new season is due to start next Sunday 28th August 2005. As yet we have not received our fixture list, but as soon as we do it will be published here.

This year we will be playing non competative 11 a sides. The matches will be on full size pitches, with official referees and will consist of 3 x 20 minute periods.

I would like to welcome Tom Elliot along, and thank him for the time he has given with the coaching over the summer, particularly because of the injury he has at present.

The boys have looked good in training and we have a friendly arranged for Sunday 21 August at Ballerup Pitch no 1 with a 10 o'clock kick off against Calderwood Blue Star. It should be a good test to see how we are shaping up for the coming season.

Could ask that parents arrive early for matches to assist with putting up nets and corner flags, leaving Tom and I time to get the boys ready.

Looking forward to a succesful season. Andy
