Training Tuesday 1 May at Dunedin

This Tuesday, 1 May, due to Champions League football training will be from 6pm til 7.30pm at Dunedin Playing Fields.

Friendly Matches Arranged

With only 3 League games remaining, and the LFDA Cup & trophy Finals taking place without us this weekend, we have arrnged some friendlies to keep us ticking over.
On Thursday 3rd May, we will be playing the 1995(under 12) side at Kirktonholm with a 6.30pm kick off. We will be meeting at 6pm at the pitches. All boys should bring the black/pink strip from Spain to wear on the night.
On Sunday 6th May, we will be playing our old friends Baljaffray. The venue and kick off time have still be arranged.

3 LFDA League Matches To Play

With Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers beating Netherton Claret 10-0 on Sunday, we are now joint top of the LFDA League 1, with 3 games remaining. Those games are
Thursday 10th May, v Netherton Amber, Venue to be confirmed.
Sunday 13th May, v Aston Villa Diamonds(h), Ballerup Pitch 5, 1000ko.
Sunday 20th May, v Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers(h), Venue TBC.
If we win our remaining 3 games, and Wishaw don't slip up, we will be tied at the top with them. If that is the case the LFDA committee will sit and decide whether a play off is required or the title is shared, but let's hope it doesn't come to that.
In short, it 's time to stand up and be counted, WE NEED TO WIN OUR LAST 3 GAMES!!!!!

HVV Hollandia Win Trofeo Mediterraneo II

Just a quick update on the winners of the tournament in Spain. HVV Hollandia, who we drew 2-2 in the group stages went on to win the final 2-1. It just goes to show how well we had done to be 2-0 up against them with 4 minutes to go, and then being pulled back. The boys should be proud of their efforts and hopefully we can take that forward into this weeks semi final with Wishaw.

Trofeo Mediterraneo Day 5 - The Final Day

The final day of the trip was spent relaxing in the hotel!!!!, seeing the sights or buying some last minute souvenirs, and then the short flight home to be met by the luxury coach back to East Kilbride. I am sure everyone who attended the tour thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and hopefully we can repeat it again next year. Thanks to everyone who gave up their time, and to those who contributed to making the event the success it was by assisting with bag packing, raffle ticket selling and attending the fund raising discos.

Trofeo Mediterraneo Day 4 - Monday 9 April 2007

Another day of rest saw some of the players head for Barcelona and a tour of the Nou Camp with the remainder of the boys travelling to Salou to the Port Aventura Theme Park.

Trofeo Mediterraneo Day 3 - Sunday 8 April 2007

Having failed to qualify and with the weather being in the 70's a much needed day of rest at the beach was what was required.

The boys spent the day on the pedalos, swimming and on the canoes.

Everybody enjoyed a much needed day of relaxation, which was followed by a presentation of the medals on the beach front that night.

Trofeo Mediterraneo Day 2 - Saturday 7 April 2007

The day started with the boys full of confidence, hopeful of making it through to the final stages on Sunday. It was warmer weather on Saturday and it took its toll on the boys. We needed 2 wins in games against the Germans and the poorest team in the group, the French to see us qualify as at least best group runner up.

VFB Asslar (Germany) 0 East Kilbride Youth Club 3

Goal Scorers - Sam HILL(2), Ryan KELLY

We started slowly and had James Kinniburgh to thank for 2 great early saves that kept us in the match. Tommy March then took control of the game, and a great move that Tommy started was finished off by Sam Hill and the nerves began to ease. Another from Sam Hill and a 3rd from Ryan Kelly gave us the win we needed.

Ville d'Istres (France) 1 East Kilbride Youth Club 0

We knew all that was needed from this game was a win and we would be through. The heat, amount of games played and nerves took its toll on the boys as they crashed to a shock 1-0 defeat. A wonder free kick into the top corner from the French number 7 saw us a goal down with 10 minutes to play, and to make matters worse, goalkeeper James Kinniburgh had to leave the pitch after the goal with a suspected broken wrist. Dean Arrol took over in goal, and even though we created a few chances, we never really looked like scoring. The Dutch who had turned up to watch cheered every French pass, which added to the boys frustrations. At the end of the game we failed to qualify by 2 points, finishing 5th overall from 15 teams. The Dutch, who we had let out of jail qualified from as winners from our group, and
went onto WIN the final 2-1.
We finished the day by taking the boys to the crazy golf in an attempt to get their heads up, after having the stuffing knocked out of them by such a shock result.

Fortunately, James did not have a broken wrist, however, he had a bandge placed on it and will not be available for at least 3 weeks.

Trofeo Mediterraneo Day 1 - Friday 6 April 2007

Having arrived late the night before the boys prepared for the first days games with a game of beach volleyball and a dip in the sea. We had a bight to eat and then headed for the fantastic Top Ten Pitches in Torder to prepare for our first game.

Valdorcia (Italy) 0 East Kilbride Youth Club 4
Goal Scorers - Darren SMITH, Sam HILL, Craig HAMILTON & Ryan KELLY

The boys started very strongly and fantastic performances from Ryan Kelly & Simon Purves put us into a strong position in the group with a good early win.

HVV Hollandia (Holland) 2 East Kilbride Youth Club 2
Goal Scorers - Darren SMITH, Gary McCULLOCH
This opposition were a differant class to the first, with players from pro youth sides Ajax and Herenveen, making up th select side from the East of Holland. We took an early lead when Darren Smith scored direct from a free kick, and when Gary McCulloch scored a tremendous second half volley we thought we had pulled off a stunning win, however 2 goals in the last 4 minutes from the Dutch saw them snatch a well desreved draw.

We returned to the hotel satisfied with our results, knowing that 2 wins the next day would see us qualify for the semi finals.
