WORLD CUP COMPETITION

Unfortunately no-one from our age group managed to predict the correct 8 winners from the group sections. Out of all our entries 17 came close, by predicting 7 group winners. All 17 picked France to win Group G, which was won by Switzerland.
A special mention must go to JAMIE BURNS, he has the honour of not predicting a single winner from any of the groups in one of his entries, and in the other only getting France wrong. Strange !!!
Anyway, thanks for everyone who entered the competition, and for contributing to the EKYC funds.

EKYC v IR Rejkavic, Iceland

Our final game of the season was a friendly against the touring Icelandic Pro Youth team IR Rejkavic. The match took place in the searing heat at lochinch Playing Fields.
The game was a bit of a mis match with IR having boys aged 12, 13 & 14 in their team, giving them a slight advantage(The keeper looked even older, and had to have a shave at half time.) our boys competed well and ended up losing 6-1. The highlight of the game was a great finish by Sam Hill for our only goal of the game.
At the end of the match our boys gave their strips away to IR, who were delighted to recieve them. Thee above photo shows both teams together at the final whistle.


TRAINING AND MATCHES ARE NOW OVER FOR THE SEASON. WE WILL RE START TRAINING ON TUESDAY 11 JULY 2006 AT DUNNEDIN PLAYING FIELDS.

Player of the Year Awards

This years player of the year awards take place at Hampden on Friday 16th June. Please be there for photos at 6.30pm for a 7pm start. The boys are to wear their traing tops and blue/yellow track suits.

Last Nights Training Of The Season

This weeks training night has been changed from Tuesday to Thursday 8th June. This is due to a large amount of the boys beeing on school trips, etc. This will be the last training session of the season. Please ensure that everyone brings their World Cup Sheets and money, as the first section games in the World Cup start the next day.

Traing will re start on TUESDAY 11th JULY however if players are on holiday then they can join in on their return.

We will be bringing in additional players to the squad, and competition for places will be tougher than ever, we are only allowed to strip 16 players next year, as we are now competing at a competative level.

I appreciate this may be disappointing to some of the players who have been with us from our 7 a side days, but the demands of competative football will be much greater this year.

Another Change To Opposition This Thursday

Our opponents this Thursday has changed yet again. We will now be played Mill United. This is the better of the 2 Mill United sides, that play in the Lanarkshire League(not LYFDA). It will be a good test as they are one of the strongest sides around. We are meeting at 6pm with a 6.30pm kick off. As before, please wear training kit and bring the barcelona jersey from the Blackpool tournament.

New opposition re match on Thursday 18th May

The opposition for this Thursdays game has changed from our 1995(under 11 age group), to a Rangers FC trialist team. We will be meeting at Kirktonholm at 6pm for a 6.30pm kick off. Due to the quality of opposition we will be facing, we ask that everyone makes every effort to be there. Please bring the barcelona jersey and wear the blue training kit.

Aston Villa Colts 2 EKYC 9

A break in the weather saw us visit Aston Villa Colts at the Priory Pitches in Blantyre. Our opponents had been on a good run of results prior to the break for the bad weather. The continued absence of Scott Mitchell meant a re-shuffle of the pack.
Dean Arrol moved into centre midfield, Gary McCulloch to right back, Christopher Park to left back, Darren Smith to centre half and Cameron Gibson to centre forward.

The changes worked almost immediately with Sam Hill bringing out a great save from the opponents keeper. From the corner Ryan Kelly swung the ball in and again the kepper had a great save. We kept up our early pressure and played some great passing football, probably the best all season, but some great goalkeeping kept us out for 10 minutes.

The breakthrough came after some quick thinking between Ryan Kelly & Dean Arrol who whipped the ball in for CAMERON GIBSON to head home. Our pressure was constant and again Dean ran beyond the defence to fire a ball across goal that RYAN KELLY finnished off at the back post.

There was no break in the pressure and in almost a carbon copy move CAMERON GIBSON added a third. With the end of the period approaching DEAN ARROL got his reward with a chipped cross from the left which went over the line before Cameron Gibson made sure. The ref gave the goal to Dean, probably to stop him moaning !!!!!

At the start of the second period, John Dingwall, Thomas McGuire and Jamie Cunningham came on. Almost immediately we were five up when a Ryan Kelly cross into the box was missed by everyone, but fired into the net by an unfortunate Colts player.

SCOTT GRAHAM added a sixth with a great header from another corner.

At the end of the second period it was 6-0, and more changes were made bringing on trialists Graham Baillie and Bobby Barclay.

Due to the changes Colts came into it and scored a good goal on the break to make it 6-1.

LIAM CRICHTON added to his seasons's tally before CAMERON GIBSON completed his hat trick to make it 8-1. Colts then scored another after James Kinniburgh had made a great save from a free kick, but the rebound broke to a Colts player who made it 8-2.

Word then spread throught the team that the next goal scored would be our 100th of the season, and it was no surprise when left winger RYAN KELLY finished the scoring to make it a resounding 9-2 win.

Man of the Match was awarded by the Aston Villa Colts manager to DEAN ARROL for his tireless performance, having a hand in at least 5 of the goals.

Tomorrows game against Netherton Claret in Mothwerwell has been cancelled due to a frozen pitch. It is hoped it will be arranged in mid week later in the year.

This Sundays game is away against Motherwell side Netherton Claret. We are meeting at Hairmyres at 0930 to travel to Motherwell for a 1030 kick off. The pitch is being inspected on Friday, but due to the frost we might not know if the game is on/off til the last minute. Please phone to check on Saturday night.

Daily Record - Kit For Kids Collection

We have succesfully registered in the Daily Record - Kit For Kits promotion.
If you are not aware what it is all about, every day from Saturday 11 March the Daily Record and Sunday Mail will print tokens for collection towards kit for the team. The promotion will run for 8 weeks.

The target limits are ;

Rain Jackets - 1200 tokens - 1 token a day for 8 weeks per player

Strips - 3600 tokens - 2 tokens a day for 8 weeks per player

Track suit and Strips - 4800 - 3 tokens a day for 8 weeks per player

The local derby between Claremont and YC took place in perfect playing conditions at Ballerup Playing Fields. An injury to Scott Mitchell ruled him out of contention, and he may be missing for a couple of weeks. We wish him a speedy recovery.

Our boys started the game well and had Claremont penned into their own half for the first ten minutes. Our pressure resulted in some great play from Ryan Kelly feeding the tireless SAM HILL who ran through on goal and put the ball into the net with the outside of his right foot.

Claremont came storming back and a full length diving save from James Kinniburgh kept us in front. The game was end to end at this time and a very enjoyable spectacle. Sam Hill then turned provider after some good link up play down the right, he swung over a deep cross which RYAN KELLY left foot volleyed high into the net to give us a 2-0 advantage.

We were unlucky not to add to the lead just before half time after a great cross from the right evaded everyone and ran out for a bye kick.

At half time Bobby Barclay replaced Thomas McGuire up front, and Christopher Park replaced Darren Smith in midfield.

Our opponents came out with all guns blazing at the start of the second half and continued the pressure until the final whistle. James Kinniburgh earned his Man of the Match award with some great saves, and being quick off his line to rush the forwards into shooting.

Claremont pulled a goal back with 5 minutes to go when a shot from the right bounced awkwardly in from of James Kinniburgh who could not hold the ball and the striker forced it home, to lead to a chaotic last 5 minutes. Our boys were really under the cosh and Claremont were unlucky not to equalise late on, however our boys hubng on well for a well fought win.

Aston Villa 1 EKYC 6

The absence of regular starters Scott Mitchell and Christopher Park meant a couple of changes to the team that started last week. Thomas McGuire started up front with Sam Hill.

We had a slow start to the game and after some early pressure Villa broke up the park and the striker fired the ball high into the net from a tight angle to give them a 1-0 lead against the run of play. Our boys were playing some good football, but as last week, could not find the killer touch in front of goal.

THOMAS McGUIRE then equalised after a goalmouth scramble to put us 1-1 at the end of the first period.

An unchanged team went into the next third, and a great solo effort from SAM HILL was finnished off with a cheeky chip over the keeper.

LIAM CRICHTON and SAM HILL added another 2 goals before the end of the period.

A couple of changes were made and trialists Bobby Barclay and Graeme Baillie were given a chance. We continued to press and LIAM CRICHTON added his second of the day, to put him back to the top of the goalscoring charts, before the ever impressive SAM HILL completed his hat trick and the scoring to make it 6-1.

The only black note of the day was an injury to keeper James Kinniburgh which resulted on 'Sick Note' hobbling off to be replaced by Dean Arrol. Lets hope its just a wee knock and he will be okay for next weeks game against the strong Baillieston Juniors.

EKYC 3 Hamilton Boys Club 0

The absence of regular left winger Ryan Kelly led to a couple of personnel changes for todays game. Scott Mitchell moved from up front to left midfield, Christopher Park moved to centre forward and Jack Kerr returned to the middle of the park.

We were camped in the Hamilton half for most of the first 20 minutes, but a mixture of poor finnishing and good goalkeeping resulted in the period ending 0-0.

The second period followed the same pattern, and it was obvious that Ryan's width on the left was missing, and changes to the formation were required. At the end of the second period it was still 0-0.

The third period started with Scott Mitchell reverting to centre forward along side Sam Hill, Thomas McGuire replacing Christopher Park and the side going 3-5-2 with Dean Arrol moving to right midfield. The change paid off with 10 minutes to go when DEAN ARROL flicked a Hill corner towards goal with his head, and the ball deflected into the net.

The goal gave the boys confidence and soon THOMAS MCGUIRE added a 2nd with a great shot, high into the net from just outside the box. We kept Hamilton penned into their own half and SCOTT GRAHAM scored his second in as many weeks with a strong finish from 8 yards out.

Dean Arrol was voted Man of the Match by the referee, for his goal and 100% effort.

EKYC Invitational Tournament, Sunday 9 April 2006

As you will by now be aware, the Scottish Easter Cup tournament which we were attending at Dalziel Parks, Motherwell at the Easter weekend has now been cancelled due to poor subscription.

We are now holding our own tournament which will be held on Sunday 9 April between 1pm and 5pm at the Strathclyde Police Playing Fields, Lochinch, Pollok Park.

The format will be a round robin event with ourselves and the three other invited teams, all playing against each other on the 2 pitches at Lochinch.

I have invited Lawhill United, Baljaffray Boys Club and Giffnock Soccer Centre to take part, and they have all agreed.

Fundraising to pay for the event has begun and I ask everyone to try to raise as much as we can. I am also trying to find sponsors for the event. If you can help please let me know, or pass my number on to anyone who you think can help.

It should be a great day.

Our local derby against the Burgh took place at Ballerup on Sunday morning, in spite of a late scare due to a sharp frost.
The boys looked up for the game from the start with the impressive SAM HILL running from his own half and rounding the keeper to give us an early lead.
We kept pressing and before long SAM HILL added his second after som great work by Ryan Kelly on the left wing.
Both Ryan Kelly on the left and Liam Crichton on the right were possing Burgh all sorts of problems and after one of his trade mark runs from the right LIAM CRICHTON made it 3-0.
At this time our boys started to sit back and think the game was won, allowing our opponents back into the game. At the end of the first period it was 3-0.

Some slack play at the start of the second period allowed Burgh to get a goal back, which raised their spirits, however Sam & Ryan continued to cause them all sorts of problems on the wings.
In the second period LIAM CRICHTON added his second and THOMAS McGUIRE scored from close range.

In the final period SAM HILL completed his hat trick, RYAN KELLY scored a brace(one with his head!!!) and SCOTT GRAHAM finnished the scoring with a close range shot after a great corner from Sam Hill.

Were it not for some poor finishing and a couple of dodgey penalty decisions the score would have been greater, but it was a great result and good performance from everyone.

Man Of The Match was a hard decision but it was shared between Sam Hill and Ryan Kelly.

EK Burgh v EKYC, Sunday 29 January 2006

This Sundays local derby against EK Burgh is being played at Ballerup Pitch 6 with a 1000 kick off. We will be meeting at the pitches at 0930.

EKYC v Newmains Hammers Match Cancelled

This Sundays match against Newmains Hammers has been called off due to the pitches being flooded.

Training will be at Clairmont on Tuesday as ussual between 6pm - 8pm.

Next weeks match is the derby game against EK Burgh with a 1000 kick off at Ballerup pitch 6.

Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers 3 EKYC 1

This was a hard fought match played in Overtown in which we suffered our first defeat of the season against the strong Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers. We made a few changes to our line up from recent weeks with Cameron Gibson reverting to centre half and Ross McDonagh replacing Liam Crichton who was struggling with a muscle strain.

We started the game like a train and very quickly had Wishaw penned in their own half. RYAN KELLY opened the scoring after some great passing play saw the ball squared accross the goal and Ryan volleyed us into the lead from close range. We continued to press and when the pacey Wishaw forwards tried to break they were marshalled well by Scott Graham and Cameron Gibson at centre half. Scott Graham was unlucky with a long range effort that hit the bar in the last minute of the half.

At the start of the second period Thomas McGuire replaced Scott Mitchell who was struggling with a thigh strain and Liam Chrichton replaced Ross McDonagh.
Wishaw gained the upper hand when they pressed down the right, forcing a quick shy which resulted in the getting the ball into the box and the forward finished well to equalise.

Our boys looked sahken by that and James Kinniburgh had to make a few good saves to keep the score even. The defence which looked solid in the first half was being caught out of position and 2 quick goals from Wishaw saw us struggling at 3-1 down.

At the start of the third period Sam Hill moved to wide right and immediately started to find space for himself and his team mates, and his work rate was second to none. Cameron Gibson was pushed forward as we went 3-4-3 to try and get something from the game and both he and Christopher Park shot narrowly over. The game finished at 3-1 and the disappointment showed on some of the players faces,as they tasted defeat for the first time at 11 a sides, an impressive run which hopefully will get back on track next week, agaisnt the equally tough Newmains Hammers.

Man of the Match for the 2nd week in a row was Scott Graham.

This Sundays match is against Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers. It is a 1030 kick off at Overtown Wishaw. We are meeting at 0915 at Hairmyres Station.
The match promises to be a cracker as both sides were going strongly prior to the lay off for bad weather and the Christmas break.

EKYC 2 Westwood Rovers 0

Our first game of 2006 was played on the 3G Astro Grass at Bent Pitches, Hamilton.
Our opponents were Westwood Rovers who were playing their first 11 a side match.

The game was played in freezing conditions, and the long lay off looked to have affected the way the boys played.

Within a minute of the game starting we were one nil up with a volley from SCOTT MITCHELL high over the keeper and into the net.

It should have been the start we wanted and allowed us to play our normal passing game on the big pitch. It was not to be however and we huffed and puffed a little, passing up some good goal scoring opportunities. At the end of the first period it was 1-0.

EKYC made some changes with Lee Elliot, Cameron Gibson and Ross McDonagh replacing Darren Smith, Sam Hill and Scott Mitchell.

The second half was pretty unaventful but again some poor finishing kept the score down. Meanwhile James Kinniburgh had to look alert and be quick off his line a couple of times to help out the defence.

At the start of the third period more chnages were made. The boys looked a bit hungrier and kept Westwood penned in their own half. RYAN KELLY was getting more involved and he finished off a good move down the left to make it 2-0.

Scott Graham looked to have the defence controlled well and his pace matched that of the Westwood winger, who looked frustrated and his attempts to outrun Scott.

The game ended at 2-0 and SCOTT GRAHAM'S performance meant he was awarded Man of the Match.

Friendly v Westwood Rovers - Sunday 8 January 2006

A friendly match has been arranged for this Sunday, 8 January against Westwood Rovers.
The game is a 2pm kick off at the Bent 3G Astro Grass Pitch in Hamilton.
We will be meeting at 1pm at Hairmyres or 1.30pm at the pitch.

Training Re-Starts Wednesday 4th January

I hope everyone had a good Christmas and a Happy New Year. Tam and I would like to thank everyone for their gifts, mostly which were drunk over New Year, they were very much appreciated !

Training is re starting this Wednesday to let the boys burn off some of those sweets they have been eating over the festive period.
We will be training at JACKTON POLICE COLLEGE between 6pm and 8pm.
We are aware that a lot of the boys have been unwell during the run up to Christmas and the holidays, and if anyone is feeling the effects of it then take your time in coming back.

We are trying to arrange a friendly game for Sunday, but the weather forecast does not look to good.

Partick Thistle 2 EKYC 4

The match was a 12 o c'clock kick off on the astro grass at the Firhill Complex, Maryhill. The only player missing was John Dingwall who has broken his arm and will be out till into the New Year. Everyone wishes him a speedy recovery.

The game was played in freezing conditions. The pitch was great, but a little frosty down the left hand side.

EKYC started playing some great football, and the passing was great to see. RYAN KELLY scored the opening goal with a great finish, after some nifty footwork down the left hand side. We had Thistle hemmed in their own half, and some poor finishing kept the score down, and in their first attack, which was a long hopeful punt up the park, YC defenders were too slow to react and the centre forward ran through and beat James Kinniburgh with a shot low into the net.

At the end of the first period it was 1-1, and some changes were made replacing Liam Chrichton who had hurt his back with Ross McDonagh, Cameron Gibson on for Darren Smith, Thomas McGuire for Jack Kerr and Lee Elliot for Gary McCulloch.

Within a minute ROSS MCDONAGH had charged down a short back pass to the Thistle keeper and rolled the ball into the net to make it 2-1.

Thistle again pulled a goal back this time from a short kick out by Kinniburgh, the striker took a touch and then fired it high over James' head and into the net.

A couple more changes were made and we continued to press with some good link up play with Ryan Kelly and ROSS McDONAGH resulting in the latter getting his second of the day with a cool finnish.

We then had 2 goals ruled offside, hit the post and the keeper had a great save before ROSS McDONAGH completed his hat trick with a tap in.

This was a great display on a big park, the boys played some excellant football and kept possession well.

We will try to arrange some games during the festive period.

EKYC 4 Strathclyde United 3

At last, after 5 weeks of trying, a game on a Sunday morning. Some late call offs from Lee Elliot, Jamie Cunningham and Liam Crichton left EKYC with a pool of only 14 players to pick from. The pitch was heavy and the conditions were very windy.

We started off the game and it was noticeable that the boys had not played for a while, the usual slick passing and movement was not there. We did have Starthclyde Utd penned back in their own half for long periods but could not take advantage of some great work by the tireless Sam Hill.

Eventually, SAM HILL took the matters into his own hands and scored a great individual goal by firing the ball high into the visitors net from outside the box.
Gary McCulloch was the removed from the field after agravating his back injury, which meant some re shuffling of the team.
Going into the second half 3 changes were made and John Dingwall, Thomas McGuire and Cameron Gibson entered the game.

CAMERON GIBSON added to the scoring to make it 2-0,early in the 2nd half.

The boys seemed to tire a little and allowed Strathclyde back into the game, and after slack defending a soft penalty was awarded for a trip by Scott Graham. The United striker made no mistake and hammered the penalty low past James Kinniburgh to his right.

This seemed to give our opposition hope and a couple of minutes later were awarded another penalty after handball from Darren Smith. this time the taker changed sides and equalised by scoring low to James's left.

At the start of the 3rd period, another mistake in the defence this time from a corner led to United taking a 3-2 lead, and at this time there only looked like being one winner with EKYC looking tired and beaten.

On a rare break, and the first piece of football played all day EKYC got the equaliser and good work from Dean Arrol and Scott Mitchell played SAM HILL in and from a tight angle he rolled the ball into the net.

This seemed to give the boys new hope and after some good work down the right Sam Hill crossed the ball deep to the far post for RYAN KELLY to make it 4-3.
The remainder of the match was played in the United half and once again the team showed good charchter to come back from being a goal down, although the defence mistakes will need to be cut out.

Man of the Match went to the tireless SAM HILL not just for his 2 goals but for his all round play.

Friendly Match v Partick Thistle arranged 17/12/05

This Sunday is our last LYFDA fixture before Christmas, so we have arranged a friendly for the following SATURDAY 17 DECEMBER.
The game will be against Partick Thistle and will take place at the Firhill Complex, which is an astro grass pitch, in Maryhill near to Partick Thistle' ground.
We will be meeting in Hairmyres Car Park at 1100 to travel through for a 1200 kick off. Hopefully everyone will be able to make it.

Our last indoor training session of the year is in Clairmont High School on Tuesday 13 December.

We are tring to arrange some games and training venues for during the holidays. It may mean meeting some afternoons at Dunedin Playing Fields if the weather is okay, but we hope to keep the boys ticking over and playing football, so that when the new fixtures for 2006 come in, we are not rusty.

EKYC at Murray Park - 4th December 2005

This Sunday the boys had thier Christmas treat a wee bit early.The boys were taken to Murray Park the training ground of Rangers. They had a tour of the facility and a 1 1/2 hour training session with a coach on the outside astro grass. Yet again the boys excelled themselves, with a few catching the watching eye of the coach. As always they behaved themselves well and were a credit to the club and their parents.
As well as football coaching, they were giving advice on dynamic warm ups and eating habits.
The session was extremely worth while, as everyone, no matter what team they supported(including Queen of the South!!!), enjoyed it.
Hopefully we can do it again in the near future.

Quarter Atletic v EKYC - Match Cancelled

EKYC 2 Partick Thistle 1

The game was played in freezing conditions, which made the surface very slippy, but we decided to continue with the match to give the boys some much needed match practice.

The game was played over 2 half hours, at 9 a-side on the astro turf at Ballerup.
All the players were given the same play time. The team that started was ;
KINIBURGH, ARROL, McCULLOCH, GRAHAM, CRICHTON, KERR, KELLY, HILL and GIBSON.

The boys struggled to cope with the slippery surface early on and were a goal down within 10 minutes. As they got used to the surface they started to play some good attacking football and some of the passes were great to see. The boys never looked like they had not played for 4 weeks, and were soon keeping Thistle penned in their own half.

After 20 minutes SCOTT MITCHELL was brought on as a sub and with his first touch of the ball he hammered it low past the diving keeper to equalise. Trialist Ross McDonagh was then introduced, and he showed some great touches, and did not look out of place. The half finished with an entirely differant side with the exception of James Kinniburgh in goals.

In the second half, it got colder, if that was possible, and the boys were rotated contstantly. These changes did not alter the flow of the game and DEAN ARROL then scored his first of the season, with a run from his own half, as the defenders backed off, he fired a shot low into the bottom left hand corner.

The remainder of the game was fairly even, and towards the end the ground conditions worsened, but still we tried to play the passing game.

This was a great result considering we had not played for 4 weeks and the conditions.

Hopefully, we will have a game this weekend, weather permitting.

It is a 1000 kick off against Quarter Athletic at Hamilton Palace.

Friendly match v Partick Thistle - 29/11/05

On Tuesday 29 November, a friendly has been arranged with Partick Thistle under 12's to be played at Ballerup astro turf between 8pm and 9pm.

Tarining will be as ussual at Clarmont, starting at 6pm but will stop at 7.30pm. We will then travel the short distance to Ballerup for a 8.00pm kick off.

The match will be on a half pitch, and will be 9 a side, with the 7 a side goals. It has been arranged to let the boys get back into playing out doors again, due to the recent matches being cancelled.

If anyone cannot make it then it is not a problem.

Netherton(claret) v EKYC - Sunday 27 November

This Sundays game against Netherton(claret) has been arranged with a 0915 kick off away at Shields Road, Wishaw, which is the pitch we played the Netherton(amber) side on at the rear of Muirhouse flats.

We will be meeting at 0815 at Hairmyres Train Station Car Park. Anyone travelling straight to the ground, be there for 0845.

Hopefully the game will be on, but due to the weather I ask that everyone checks in on Saturday night.

Christmas Night Out

As you will have seen from the recent letter we sent out, the boys will again be attending Murray Park, the training ground of Rangers FC for their Christmas treat. This will include a tour of the facilities and a 1 and a half hour training session with a club coach. It was a great success last year, and I hope everyone will be able to make it again this year.

Matches Cancelled Re Bad Weather

The recent matches against Baillieston Juniors and Claremont AFC were both cancelled due to the frozen state of the pitches at Hamilton Palace and Brancumhall. We have tried to arrange mid week matches but due to block bookings on all the local astro pitches it has proved impossible. The boys must be very frustrated as the past 2 Sundays have been very late call offs.
This week we are due to travel to Netherton to play Netherton(claret). Lets hope the cold snap ends and allows us a match.

Aston Villa Colts v EKYC - Match Cancelled

Due to the bad weather, this Sundays match against Aston Villa Colts due to be played at Hamilton Palace has been called off. Training will be as usual on Tuesday 6-8pm at Clairmont High School.

EKYC 4 Holytown Colts 1

An early 0900 kick off on the synthetic grass at Bent Playing Fields in Hamilton was the order of the day for todays match against Holytown Colts.

Cameron Gibson started partnering Sam Hill up front after his impressive display in last weeks match against Baljaffray.

We were one up straight from kick off, in probably the quickest goal of the season. Holytown took centre and passed back to defense, but the pace of SAM HILL closed the ball down and forced the Holytown player into an error, Sam ran into the box and picked his spot in the bottom corner, one nil after 10 seconds, pretty impressive.

Holytown were penned in their own half for much of the period and our pressure told when Dean Arrol's clearance found CAMERON GIBSON in the clear, his pace outsripped the Holytown defence, and Cameron scored from just outside the box with a powerful finnish. It was 2-0 at the end of the first period.

Thomas McGuire, Lee Elliot and Jamie Cunningham then replaced Cameron Gibson, Gary McCulloch and Chris Park. Holytown started to look a strong team and we could not clear our lines and the ussual good passing moves that have been our trademark this season were missing. We seemed to weather the storm however, and in a rare break away JACK KERR added a third, and performed his ussual jubilant celebration. The third period ended with us 3-0 up.

A couple of more changes were made at the start of the third period and we gained the upper hand again. LIAM CRICHTON finished a great run down the right wing by chipping the out rushing keeper to make it 4-0. Holytown were the awarded a free kick 20 yards from goal which the taker expertly put over the wall and into the net leaving James Kinniburgh with no chance, to make it 4-1.

An injury to Darren Smith weakened the side when he had to limp off, but hopefully it won't be too bad and Darren will be fit for next week. Holytown continued to press until the final whistle but could not add to their tally. At the end it was a hard fought 4-1 victory.

The boys will admit it was not their best performance of the year, however with such an early start and on a surface they don't like, to continue their unbteaten run was impressive.

Next week we have Aston Villa Colts at Hmilton Palace with a 1000 kick off.

Baljaffray BC 6 EKYC 8

A tough friendly match was played today at Bearsden & Milngavie Sports Ground with an 1100 kick off . We kept our winning run going but only just,after our usual slow start, and yet again after only 10 minutes we were 3-0 down.

We stormed back to 5-3 up with 2 goals from SAM HILL, 2 goals from RYAN KELLY and one from LIAM CRICHTON. Our opponents brought it back to 5-5, before another goal each for SAM HILL and LIAM CRICHTON and an eighth from DARREN SMITH made it 8-5. Baljafray then scored a 6th to make it an exciting end to a great game.

Man of the Match was shared by DEAN ARROL and CAMERON GIBSON, the later gave a great performance moving from centre half to centre forward and assisted in at least 4 of the goals.

Next Sunday we are at home to Holytown Colts with a dreaded 0900 kick off on the Bent 3G Astro Turf in Hamilton. Remember only moulded studs and astro trainers are allowed on the surface(NO BLADES).

Lawhill United 4 EKYC 7

A very entertaining and hard fought game resulted in us keeping our unbeaten record in tact... but only just. James Kinniburgh returned in goals, allowing other players to return their natural positions. A tanned Thomas McGuire returned from 2 weeks in Mallorca, and special mention must go to Drew Watson, who travelled all the way from Dumfries to take part in the game.

The game kicked off in blustery conditions and inside 10 minutes we found ourselves 3-0 down. Lawhill were playing some great attacking football and along with some poor defending and some great finishing, particularly from Lawhill's no 7 Aiden Nohar, we found ourselves struggling.

Eventually our boys managed to string some passes together and after some strong running from LIAM CRICHTON, a Lawhill defender helped the ball into his own net to make it 3-1. We went with an unchanged team in the 2nd third, and some amazing misses and good goalkeeping kept us at bay. RYAN KELLY added a second to bring us back into it but no matter how hard we pressed we could not find a way through. The impressive Darren Smith was then switched from centre half to centre midfield, with Cameron Gibson going to centre of the back four. Darren's tough tackling and good passes created more chances but still we could not get level. At the end of the second period, it was 3-2 to our opponents.

The third period started with JACK KERR netting an impressive equaliser and then substitute THOMAS MCGUIRE latched onto a great through ball, he then rounded the keeper and from a tight angle put us 4-3 up. The lead did not last for long with Lawhill scoring a fourth from over 30 yards out which James misjudged and rocketed into the net.

EKYC then rolled up there sleeves, JACK KERR and RYAN KELLY then both added their second goals of the day with great individual goals with great finishes. The final goal was scored by the tireless SAM HILL, who after missing a few chances kept his head up and kept running at the defence, he rounded the keeper to make it 7-4.

It was a very hard fought but fair game, and we showed great fight to come back from 3 down so early on. Lets hope it keeps up.

Lawhill United FC v EKYC - Sunday 9 October

This Sunday we travel to Law to play what will undoubtedly be our toughest test to date. We will be meeting at 09.15 am at Hairmyres Station to travel through to Law, where we are playing at Law Recreational Parks with a 1030 kick off.
With the return of goalkeeper James Kinninburgh and Sam Hill, it looked like we would be able to field our strongest team for the first time this year, but news that goal machine Scott Mitchell has broken his wrist, and will be out for up to 8 weeks, means that more changes will be made. Everyone wishes Scott a speedy recovery.
Lawhill are in a rich vain of form having scored 18 goals in there last 2 games, so we will need to be at our very best to take anything from the game. It promises to be a cracker.

This Sundays match versus Mossend BC, due to be held at Bent Playing Fields has been cancelled due to our opponents not fullfilling there fixtures in our association.

We have asked LYFDA to arrange another fixture for us, but at such short notice this is unlikely.

We have managed to book Ballerup Astroturf Pitch between 1000 and 1100 for a training session. Please be at Ballerup for 0950 to allow us to start on time.

EKYC Penalty Kick Competition

The East Kilbride Youth Club Penalty King Competition took place at Ballerup on Sunday. In our age group DARREN SMITH scored a perfect 10 out of 10 penalties, edging out his close friend Ryan Kelly who managed 9. Darren went into the final against all the winners from all age groups and after a strong start, scoring his first 2 penalties, he fell away, which he blames on the state of the pitch. Shane Perry from the under 13 side was the out right winner.

The event was attended by over 150 players and will no doubt have raised great funds for the club. The prizes were presented by BRIAN McGINTY of St. Mirren who kindly gave up his time to do so.

EKYC 5 Villa Park 2

A home game at Ballerup Pitch 1 saw us entertain Villa Park, a team we had never played before. With the continued absence of James Kinniburgh through illness, a late call off from Sam Hill and Thomas McGuire & Jamie Cunningham being on holiday, we were down to only 13 players, and no goalkeeper, for the 4th week in a row.

Jack Kerr started in goal, but his influence in midfield was missed from the start and our boys struggled against a well organised Villa Park side.

We went a goal down after a long kick from the opposition keeper was missed by everyone in defence and the forward ran from the half way line to open the scoring.

This was a test of our character as we have not been a goal down since the opening game of the season, but after some good work on the wings, we were soon pressing Villa back. SCOTT MITCHELL scored the equaliser after a goal mouth scramble, after which the ref awarded a goal, although it was dubious as to whether the ball crossed the line.

At the end of the first twenty minutes it was 1-1.

A change was required and Cameron Gibson took over in goal, allowing Jack Kerr into midfield. We soon went 3-1 up through goals from SCOTT MITCHELL and DREW WATSON. At the start of the 3rd period Dean Arrol was making some great runs and passes down the right, but poor finishing led to the score staying the same.

Another break away led to our opponents getting a free kick near our corner flag, which from the resultant cross was headed in to make it 3-2.

Again the boys regrouped and SCOTT MITCHELL completed his hat trick to make it 4-2, with a great run from the half way line. The scoring was finished when Darren Smith delivered a great free kick for SCOTT MITCHELL to head his fourth goal of the game, a tally which would have won him man of the match, were it not for the performance of Dean Arrol at right back.

In the end it was a hard fought 5-2 victory. Hopefully, next week we will be able to field a full strength team for the first time this season with the antcipated return of James Kinniburgh in goals.

EKYC Penalty King Competition

The East Kilbride Youth Club sponsored penalty kick competition takes place this Sunday 25th September on pitches 3 and 4 at Ballerup Playing Fields, East Kilbride.

WE ARE MEETING AT 1345( 1/4 to 2 in old money) at Ballerup. All players should make every effort to be there.

The format for the event is that all age groups from under 8's through to under 19's attend, and each player will take 10 penalties into their own goalkeeper. The person who scores the most penalties at their own age group will be crowned the PENALTY KING and receive a trophy.

All the winners from the age groups go into a grande final, and will take a further 10 penalties into their own goalkeeper in a goal the size that they are used to.

The overall winner will be crowned EKYC PENALTY CHAMPION.

The amount of penalties saved is also recorded, and the keeper saving the most will receive a trophy.

Al boys are asked to obtain as much sponsorship as they can, as all the money goes to club funds which in the end is returned to the boys.

EKYC 10 (ten) Yett Farm 1

We welcomed back Sam Hill for today's game at Hamilton Palace, and he went straight into the starting line up alongside Scott Mitchell up front. With the continued absence of goalkeeper James Kinniburgh, Cameron Gibson took his turn at deputising in goal, alllowing Dean Arrol to return to his normal right back position.

The boys started well and within a minute had taken the lead through SAM HILL, after good work from Ryan Kelly and a great cut back from Scott Mitchell.

Further goals from SCOTT MITCHELL and SAM HILL put us 3-0 up at the end of the first period.

We were playing some great flowing football with Ryan Kelly at the heart of all the moves.

Any attacks Yett Farm did have were broken down by the impressive Scott Grahsm.

At the start of the second third, we made five changes bringing on Drew Watson, Thomas McGuire, Lee Elliot, Jamie Cunningham and John Dingwall. The boys continued to play some great passing football down both wings and 2 goals from LIAM CRICHTON, RYAN KELLY and DREW WATSON pput us in a 7 goal lead. JACK KERR then scored the goal of the game with a great run and finish, and his celebration was something special aswell.

Yett Farm scored a consolation goal from a great strike from a free kick from outside the box which Cameron Gibson could do nothing to keep out.

In the final third we made more changes and went 3-4-3, scoring twice more through SCOTT MITCHELL and SAM HILL. We had the ball in the net 2 more times for it be chopped off for offside, and miss of the season from Gary McCulloch kept the score at ten.

We could not award a man of the match as every boy played well.

Netherton (amber) 3 EKYC 6

Another away game, and a very early start, combined with the continued absence of goalkeeper James Kinniburgh through illness, and Sam Hill, through injury combined to make this a difficult match.

Our boys started slowly as usual and at the end of the first third were leading through a goal from LIAM CRICHTON.

Kicking down the hill in the second third, the team soared into a 4-0 lead with another goal from LIAM CRICHTON, the first of the season from SCOTT MITCHELL, which I am sure will be the first of many, and Thomas McGuire adding the fourth.

We then stopped playing, and the boys learned a hard lesson to play the referees whistle, when everyone stopped and claimed hand ball, for the Netherton forward to continue and fire the ball into then net. This gave Netherton hope and they scored a couple of quick goals to bring it back to 4-3, and with the way things were going, we were lucky to have the whistle to bring the third to an end, as Netherton looked like adding another.

At the start of the final third, the boys recomposed themselves, and started to play some football, up the slope. LIAM CRICHTON added a fifth, to secure his second hat trick of the season, and man of the match RYAN KELLY completed the scoring.

It was not our best performance of the season and hopefully James and Sam will be back soon. Next week we entertain Yett Farm, at Hamilton Palace Pitch 2 with a 1000 kick off.

Netherton(amber) v EKYC

This Sunday we have a 0915 kick off away at Netherton, Motherwell. We will be meeting at 0815 at Hairmyres Railway Station.

Mill United 1 EKYC 6

A visit to Mill Utd only 2 games into the season is not the easiest game in the world, but it was made even more difficult with injuries to Sam Hill and Lee Elliot, and illnesses keeping goalkeeper James Kinniburgh and John Dingwall out. We travelled with only 13 players, and had to play Dean Arrol in goal, but the boys rose to the challenge.

Dean had two or three good saves in the first third keeping the score at 0-0.

At the start of the second period, Mill Utd took the lead after a quick break up field and indecision in our defence. The boys rallied well and almost immedately RYAN KELLY equilized after a Scott Graham shot was blocked. DREW WATSON then added a second with a great individual goal which resulted in him firing the ball high into the roof of the net.

In the final period the boys dug deep and penned Mill United in their own half, some of the best football we have played resulted in both MAN OF THE MATCH DREW WATSON and RYAN KELLY completing their hat tricks.

Every player played fantastic and rose to the challenge, and any one one them could have taken the Man of the Match award, but DREW WATSON edged it for his important and well taken goals.

Mill Utd v EKYC, Sunday 4th August 2005

The match against Mill Utd this Sunday has been arranged for an 1100 o'clock kick off away at Hamilton. It is not the usual pitch we have played on the last three occassions.
We will be meeting at Hairmyres Car Park at 1000. Anyone travelling direct to Hamilton, let me know. I will give you directions to the changing facilities.
